El jugador de la Selección Brasileña de Beach Handball, Gil Pires, participó de una demostración de esta modalidad ante el Comité Olímpico Internacional. En estas líneas, cuenta la experiencia que vivió en tierras suizas:
Estuvimos en Lausanne, Suiza, ciudad sede del Comité Olímpico Internacional (COI) para dar el que creo fue el paso más importante para el beach handball desde su creación: una demostración para el Dr. Thomas Bach, Presidente del COI. El fin es lograr que esta modalidad sea un deporte olímpico.
Todo fue muy bien organizado por los dirigentes de Beach Handball de la Federación Internacional (IHF), en una arena montada con nivel de Campeonato del Mundo en el estadio Pierre de Coubertin.
Nos dividieron en dos equipos, Orion y Sirius, con atletas que jugarían en cualquier equipo del mundo. Todos teníamos el mismo objetivo: hacer un partido espectacular.
A mi me tocó el equipo Orión, junto con mi amigo personal del club y la selección brasileña, Bruninho; los croatas Paradzic y Totic, los ucranianos Ladyko y Poltoratskyi, el español Mendoza y el danés Jensen. En el equipo Sirius estuvieron los rusos Kalashnikov y Prokhorov, los españoles Chisp y Jorge Oliva, el croata Drago, el MVP danés Martin Andersen, el serbio Pavlovic y el acróbata brasileño Thiago Gusmão.
El partido fue un show, lleno de jugadas espectaculares y con asistencias mágicas de Bruninho, además de los tiros de larga distancia de los especialistas de Dinamarca, Serbia y Ucrania. También hubo giros desconcertantes de los laterales Chisp y Kalashnikov y definiciones de habilidad de los pivotes Mendoza y Drago. Pero lo mejor estaba para el final. El shoot out. Hasta ahí el partido fue equilibrado, llegando hasta el séptimo lanzamiento.
Vi a Gusmão hacer esos giros fantásticos en los que queda casi cabeza abajo en el aire y hasta yo logré hacer un gol después de un giro de 720 grados!
Al final, recibimos un certificado y una premiación de manos del Presidente de la IHF, Dr. Hassan Moustafa, y del propio Dr. Bach, que me dijo que percibió la alegría con la que hacemos nuestro deporte y que nuestra sonrisa demuestra esa felicidad y que eso contagia a quien está viendo el partido. Y eso es justamente lo que se espera de un deporte con espíritu olímpico. También dijo que cree que no hay nada que impida el éxito del beach handball en los Juegos Olímpicos.
Sumando la introducción de esta modalidad en los Juegos Olímpicos de la Juventud 2018 en Buenos Aires, Argentina, esta demostración y todo el esfuerzo de los que hacen posible el beach handball, volví para casa con mi valija llena de esperanza de que nuestro deporte tenga el lugar que se merece, en los Juegos Olímpicos!
The player of the Brazilian Beach Handball National Team, Gil Pires, took part in a demostration of this modality for the International Olympic Committee. The following text tells the experience lived there:
We were in Lausanne, Switzerland, city where the International Olympic Committe (IOC) works to take a step I believe is the biggest for beach handball since its creation: a demostration for Dr. Thomas Bach, COI’s President. The gold is to make beach handball an olympic sport.
Everything was really well organized by the Beach Handball representatives from the International Federation (IHF), on a sand of a World Championship level placed in Pierre de Coubertin stadium.
We were divided in two teams, Orion and Sirius, with athletes that can play in any team around the world. We all had the same gold: make an excellent match.
I was placed in Team Orion, longside my personal friend and team mate from club and Brazilian National Team, Bruninho, Croatians Paradzic and Totic, Ukranians Ladyko and Poltoratskyi, Spanish Mendoza and Danish Jensen. In Team Sirius were Russians Kalashnikov and Prokhorov, Spanich Chisp and Jorge Oliva, Croatian Drago, Danish MVP Martin Andersen, Serbian Pavlovic and Brazilian acrobat Thiago Gusmao.
The match was a show full of espectacular plays and magical assists by Bruninho. There were also amazing long distance shots from specialists from Denmark, Serbia and Ukraine. There were also unbelievable turns by Chisp and Kalashnikov and full skill definitions by Mendoza and Drago. But the best was for the end. The shoot out. Even there it was an equal match, getting to the seventh shot.
I saw Gusmao making those fantastic shots in which he ends upside down in the air and I even scored a goal after a 720º turn!
At the end, we received a certificate and a trophy presentation by the President of the IHF, Dr. Hassan Moustafa, and from Dr. Bach himself, who told me he percibed the joy with which we play and our smile shows that joy and that touches whoever is watching the game. And that is exactly what is expected from a sport with olympic spirit. He also told me he believes there is nothing that can stop success for beach handball in the Olympic Games.
Added o the introduction of this modality in 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argenitna, this demostation and the effort of everyone that makes beach handball possible, I returned home with my bag full of hope of having our sport in the spot it deserves, the Olympic Games!
