Duda (BRA), elegida Mejor Jugadora del Mundo de 2014 | Duda (BRA) elected World Handball Player of 2014

La votación terminó y los fans y expertos del handball alrededor del mundo eligió a los mejores jugadores de 2014. La votación tuvo lugar del 13 al 20 de febrero de 2015 y tuvo a más de 55 mil votantes.


Con el 33.7 % de los votos, la superestrella francesa Nikola Karabatic es el claro ganador entre los hombres relegando al danés Mikkel Hansen (21%) y a su compatriota y MVP del Mundial de Qatar, Thierry Omeyer (19.5%).


La ganadora en la categoría femenina fue Eduarda “Duda” Amorim (BRA), quien recibió el 35.2 % de los votos dejando a la rumana Cristina Neagu segunda con 25.8% y a Heide Loke (NOR) con el 16.8%, en tercero. Amorim es la segunda brasileña en conseguir este galardón en los últimos tres años, luego de que Alexandra do Nascimento lo ganara en 2012. Duda, Campeona del Mundo en Serbia 2013, juega para el Gyori húngaro y fue fundamental para que su equipo gane la Champions League por segunda vez seguida el año pasado.


Amorim comenzó a jugar al handball a los 11 años en el Colegio Barao do Rio Branco. Luego pasó al Metodista en 2002, equipo con el que terminó segunda en la liga brasileña. En febrero de 2006 emigró a Europa, donde se sumó a su hermana en el Kometal Skopje de la capital macedonia. Allí pasó tres temporadas y media, ganando el Campeonato Macedonio tres veces. Luego de dejar Skopje, Duda encontró su nuevo hogar en Hungría, al firmar con el Gyori el 23 de febrero de 2009. Ahllí ganó la Champions League en 2013 y 2014. Adicionalmente, los fans votaron online en la web de la Federación Europea y fue elegida la mejor lateral izquierda de la competición en 2015. Con la Selección Brasileña, consiguió la medalla dorada en los Juegos Panamericanos 2007 y 2011 y participó de los Juegos Olímpicos de Beijing 2008 -donde terminó novena- y Londres 2012 -donde quedaron eliminados en cuartos de final por Noruega, que ganaría el torneo-. En 2013 ganó el Mundial de Serbia y fue elegida la mejor jugadora del torneo.



Voting is over and handball fans and experts from across the globe have elected the best players in 2014. Voting took place between 13 and 20 February 2015 and more than 55,000 fans from all over the globe had a chance to choose the players they believe to be the best of the past year.


With 33.7 % of the votes, French superstar Nikola Karabatic is the clear winner between men of the award leaving the Danish ace Mikkel Hansen with 21 % of the votes in second place and his national team colleague and MVP from the World Championship in Qatar, Thierry Omeyer, in third place with 19.5 % of the votes.


The winner in the women’s category Eduarda Amorim received 35.2 % of the votes leaving Cristina Neagu from Romania in second place with 25.8 % of the votes and Heide Løke in third place with 16.8 %. Amorim is the second Brazilian to be crowned World Handball Player of the Year in three years, after Alexandra do Nascimento won this award in 2012. Amorim, a World Champion from Serbia in 2013, plays for Hungarian outfit Györi Audi ETO KC. She was instrumental in her side lifting the EHF Champions League trophy last year for the second time in a row.


Amorim started to play handball at the age of 11 in the Colégio Barão do Rio Branco. She moved to Metodista/São Bernardo in 2002, with whom she won the second place in the Brazilian League. She moved to Europe in February 2006, joining her sister in the Macedonian capital team Kometal Skopje. She spent three and a half seasons with Kometal, winning the Macedonian Championship three times in the process. After leaving Skopje, Amorim found her new home in Hungary, signing with Gy?ri Audi ETO KC on 23 February 2009. She won the Champions League in 2013 and 2014. Additionally, in an online fans’ poll launched by the European Handball Federation she was chosen the best left back of the competition in 2014. With the Brazilian national team, the left back won the gold medal at the 2007 and 2011 Pan American Games. She also participated in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, where the Brazilian team placed ninth, and in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, where they were unluckily eliminated in the quarter-finals by later winner Norway. In 2013 she won the World Championship in Serbia and was elected Most Valuable Player of the competition.
